Nicholas Hill – Drum and Piano Instructor

Drums/Piano

Nicholas Hill was born in 1985 and grew up in Wall Township, NJ. He began drumming at age 9, inspired heavily by his grandparents’ love of jazz. Active in school music programs, he later enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard Band, performing for presidents, senators, and foreign heads of state and dignitaries. He completed 20 years of military service in 2024 and has been teaching since, instructing students ages 4–65. Nicholas has also prepared students for auditions up to the collegiate level. During the pandemic he began studying piano and, in 2024, started teaching the latter along with offering idiophone instruction.

Most of Nicholas’ career was spent in research and development, focusing on sustainable electric energy and propulsion systems. He studied electrochemical engineering at Purdue University and New Jersey Institute of Technology, and has led multidisciplinary teams of esteemed scientists and industry executives. He’s currently combining teaching with some of his technical expertise by developing a comprehensive, electronic percussion instruction manual—both writing and coding the work with the aid of his music and STEAM students.

Nicholas tries to bring a musical experience to the classroom that emphasizes alacrity and depth of understanding. He teaches with a passion, and wants to see his students excel, succeed and above all else, meet their artistic goals.
